The Whitefish Bay School Board held the 2008-09 School District Budget Hearing and Annual Meeting on Wednesday evening, September 3, in room 47 at WhitefishBayHigh School. All board members were in attendance.
The Budget Hearing included a presentation on the proposed 2008-09 school district budget by Director of Business Services Shawn Yde. The budget represents a decrease of 3.34% in spending over 2007-08. However, much of the decrease is accounted for by a change in how special education flow thru funding is handled in the North Shore Exceptional Education Cooperative (NSEEC). Beginning this year, all of the member districts will be managing their own flow thru accounts. Following the budget presentation there were no questions from the audience. The School Board approved the annual budget as presented.
The Annual Meeting convened immediately following the Budget Hearing. Community member Jim Schacht was elected chair of the meeting. The following resolutions were approved from the Annual Meeting Agenda:
Ø Establish the 2008-09 property tax levy in the amount of $19,441,271.
Ø Maintain School Board member salaries in the amount of $1,250 for the President and $1,200 for other board members.
Ø Authorize payment of board member expenses related to school district business conducted outside of the school district.
Ø Authorize the School Board to lease school facilities, sites and equipment and sell property belonging to but not needed by the school district.
Ø Designated September 2, 2009 as the date for the Annual Meeting next year.
Following the School District Annual Meeting, the School Board convened the Annual Meeting of the Whitefish Bay Public Education Foundation. Foundation Board President Mark LeGrand summarized the activities of the Foundation over the past year and highlighted very successful Bay Ball and Run the Bay fundraising activities. Mr. LeGrand also indicated that he will return to the board at a later date with proposed changes in membership to the Whitefish Bay Public Education Foundation Board of Directors.
