WHAT OUR STUDENTS SAY!
The annual back to school staff meeting on August 26 featured observations and insights from two current students and one alumnus. We are delighted to share some samples of what our students had to say.
Thomas
8th Grade Student at Whitefish Bay Middle School
… the biggest thing I have been given is opportunities where I control the end result, chances where the outcome is in my hands. Through these, I was taught to take responsibility for my own action, to always take pride in my work, and above all else – always do my best. Whenever I got those chances, I started to become more independent while still in an environment where I did not fear failing. I learned to do things for myself, but when I did need help, you were there for support.
Kevin
Whitefish Bay High School Senior
Over the years I have personally gotten to know a lot of amazing teachers who I will definitely never forget. Teachers who have always been enthusiastic about what they are teaching. Who have always been happy to be there and who are constantly challenging me to think differently. Teachers who have always been available when I have questions, before school, after school at lunch, you name it, they were there. Teachers who have always been friendly, approachable, supportive, easy to talk to and willing to listen and provide sound advice. These are the teachers that I have come to know. And even though everything I just said may seem like typical qualities for a teacher, I think they are, in fact, rather extraordinary.
John Duffy Tilleman
Class of 2004 Graduate
Winner of London’s 2008 Big Idea Contest
I think the most important thing is the culture of success at WhitefishBay. It never feels that to succeed is viewed negatively. I think that it is just exactly the opposite at WhitefishBay. I really think that all the teachers, peers and parents really foster an excellent atmosphere for learning for everyone. You really want to succeed. And I think that more than any specific thing that I learned just that confidence in myself and the desire to succeed is really the biggest thing in an effort like this.
