The Life of Mr. Burgos

Mr. Burgos' Life Story

I grew up on the Southside of Milwaukee with my parents and my two brothers.  My older brother, Eric, lives in Waukesha with his wife and my two adorable nieces.  My younger brother Evan, still lives in Milwaukee and plays on a semi-pro football team.  My father was born in Puerto Rico and my mom was an “army brat”, so she grew up all over the country.
I attended 55th St School growing up, which is now the Milwaukee Spanish Immersion School.  I then went to Milwaukee School of Languages for sixth thru eighth grades and graduated from Vincent High School.  I received my bachelor degree in Elementary Education at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse where I swam all 4 years.  While in college I was fortunate enough to study abroad in Spain for six months.  During this time I was also able to visit Egypt, Germany, Morocco, and Italy.
This will be my seventh year teaching and my fourth here at Cumberland.  I had previously taught three years in the Greenfield School District.  I started there in a long-term substitute position as the kindergarten thru fifth grade ESL teacher for the second half of the year.  The following two years I taught in a fourth and fifth grade looping situation.  This meant that I was blessed to have the same group of students for both fourth and fifth grade.  It was so fulfilling to see how much my students grew in those two short years.
I presently live in Grafton with my wonderful wife Alissa and our spoiled little dog Dobey.  My wife is a commercial underwriter with Acuity Insurance in Sheboygan and Dobey runs the house.  Outside of school I am the head coach of the Grafton Girls’ swim team and a part-time coach with the Ozaukee Aquatics, a private swim club.  In my free time I like to read, cook, play video games, and train for triathlons.
Teaching, in my opinion, is the best job around.  Everyday I get the opportunity to share my love of learning with children and help them build the skills, knowledge, and confidence to be successful individuals.  I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you as we grow and learn together.
