Thursday Letter from Jayne Heffron
Looking out the window at the children enjoying recess puts me in mind of a Bruegel painting, just with brighter colors. We love it when we have snow! Our large fields give plenty of room for the hill sliding (feet or knees first only), building large snow people and forts, and even for those students who simply lie down in the snow and look at the sky. Watch our website to see some pictures of kids enjoying themselves outside. Go to the Cumberland home page to see photos.
Our students come from increasingly diverse family configurations and we have a growing number of families that include adopted children. As a way to help families that include adopted children connect with one another, we are hosting a Family Potluck Get Together here at Cumberland on February 23 rd from 5:30-7:00. Guidance counselors, Laury Anstett and Jennifer Bradley, and I will be hosting. We hope you will come. This initial meeting will be a chance to share a meal, meet other families, and to share questions and stories. Children are welcome to attend. After our meal, we will separate into adult and child groups to allow adults to talk with one another freely. If you will be attending please bring a dish to pass and plates and silverware for your own family. We will provide beverages. Also, please email me or call the office ( Jayne.Heffron@wfbschools.com, 963-3943) to let us know the number of you who will be here and the ages of the child(ren) so that we can plan for child activities. If this is an area of particular interest to you, I hope to see you on February 23 rd.
We seem to be missing many Jr. Kindergarten students for next year so if you have a child who will be 4 on or before September 1st who you have not registered for school, stop in or give the office a call.
Remember, there is not school for children on Monday, February 15th. It is nice that I will be able to take my husband’s birthday off. Maybe I will bake him a cake!
