Thursday Letter from Ms. Heffron
It seems like just yesterday that I was whizzing across the ice, eyes closed and not-so-silent screams coming from my mouth, with the privilege of being the human hockey puck at the Admirals hockey game. In the blink of an eye we fast forward to 2010 when in just one day Mr. Nathan Joynt will have this opportunity. I believe that 245ish tickets were sold so I look forward to seeing many of you at the game tomorrow and to Mr. Joynt’s Olympic like run on the ice. Let’s show that we have even more spirit than the Richards group!
We have three Student Council Teams at Cumberland and each team does things to contribute to the experience students have here. In addition to a dozen or so staff who lead the teams, more than 90 students are involved. One recent project was the food collection, sponsored by the Community Team, in honor of the 100th day of school. Your amazing generosity resulted in a grand total of 3130 food items being collected for donation to Second Harvest. Food banks use the formula of one (1) pound of food equals one meal or $1.00 equals four means. By either measure, hundreds of meals will be provided as a result of the Cumberland collection. I hope you had a chance to see the mounds of food and barrels in the entryway.
If your family includes adopted members I hope you join us for a Family Potluck Get Together here at Cumberland on February 23rd from 5:30-7:00. This is a chance to meet other families, network, and talk about common questions and experiences.
The PTO Pizza Hut fundraiser challenge continues. Each grade level has identified specific things that will be purchased with the funds raised. Presenting a Cumberland flyer (available online with the PTO Chronicles) directs 15% of that day’s sales to Cumberland. Designated dates are:
February 18th – K4 and K5
March 4th - First grade
March 18th - Second grade
April 15th - Third grade
May 6th - Fourth grade
May 20th - Fifth grade.
Our Found of the Lost and Found collection is large. Items will be displayed on tables during the week of Parent Teacher conferences. Everything left at the end of the week will be donated.
Best regards, Jayne Heffron
