Ms. Heffron's Weekly Letter

Dear Families,
Please see my letter in today’s Cougar Chronicles for a final round of thank yous. Additional to those are my thanks and admiration to the Cumberland Specials Team who put together an amazing Spring Sing. From the Kindergarten oh-so-cute bug dance to the closing 5th grade version of Thriller, all grades were amazing. And, I so love that the students were having fun while performing.

Looking forward, remember that June 9th is the last day for all Kindergarten students. On June 10th, 1st-5th grade students are dismissed at 10:00.

Save the date: Registration is August 19th and 20th. This is in person registration during which you come to school, pay your school fees, and pick up the information rich  packet.

While I am not sure where we will be this summer, I will definitely get email and hopefully calls. I look forward to hearing from you.   At the end of another fascinating year I continue to be delighted to come to school every day and to work with you and your children. See you in the fall, if not before.
                                                Warm regards,   Jayne Heffron

In other news:
  • Yearbooks are on sale in the office for $16.50. A limited number are available.
  • Follow the link below to take a parent survey being conducted on behalf of our Consortium related to school perceptions and equity.
  • In the spring of 2009 Whitefish Bay Schools became part of a regional consortium of North Shore School Districts in collaboration with PACE 3 (a Whitefish Bay parent advocacy group), and Cardinal Stritch University to begin a multi-year training in Cultural Competency. The Whitefish Bay team is comprised of school board members, administrators, teachers and parents. The team has three goals: to establish a common language through building relationships and trust in order to create a compelling vision of cultural equality and educational excellence; to cultivate mindsets and behaviors which support equity and achievement and to assist in the development of a sustained system marked by a school climate which is beneficial to all students.
In an effort to develop a school climate that is beneficial to all students, our third goal, the consortium schools have surveyed all of our middle school and high school students about their school experiences. Now the consortium schools would like to survey all of our parents. These parent surveys will provide the district administrators and consortium team with information on parent's experiences with their school community along with the parent's opinion about their child's school experiences. The parent input is essential to developing a full picture of our current school climate by providing information on the schools strengths and weaknesses, so that we, as a school community, will better serve all students. We invite all parents to participate in the parent survey and assist district leaders in cultivating a school community that benefits all students while maintaining our long held commitment to academic excellence.

There are three surveys, one for each type of school (elementary, middle, and high school).  Please click on the link below to take the survey. The each survey takes about 20 minutes to complete.

If a parent has more than one school age child, then that parent has the option of just completing the survey for only one of their children or completing a new survey each of their children. Example: I have one middle school child and three high school children. I could complete just one survey for one of my high school children and I could stop there. Or I could complete one middle school survey and three high school surveys. (This option is explained in the survey.)
