 Unit 4: Division 

Secure Goals:
  • Know place value to the hundredths  
Developing/Secure Goals:
  • Find the quotient and remainder of a whole number divided by a one digit whole number
  • Find the quotient and remainder of a whole number divided by a two digit whole number
  • Make magnitude estimates for quotients of whole and decimal numbers divided by whole numbers
  • Interpret the remainder in division number stories
  • Determine the value of a variable; use this value to complete a number sentence

 

Unit 5: Fractions, Decimals, and Percents

Developing/Secure Goals:

  • Convert between fractions and mixed numbers. Example:  17/5 = 3 2/5 and 3 1/3 = 10/3
  • Find equivalent fractions  3/4 = 6/8 = 12/16

Developing Goals

  • Order and compare fractions  7/8 greater than 5/10
  • Convert between fractions and percents with a denominator of 10, 100, 20, 25  Example: 2/5 to a percent. 

Step 1: Find an equivalent fraction with a denominator of ten or 100.  2/5 = 4/10

Step 2.  Change it to a decimal.  0.4

Step 3.  Change it to a percent. 40%

  • Draw a circle graph for a set of data using your percent circle.
  • Measure pieces of a circle graph using your percent circle
  • Interpret circle graph: Example:  If 30 % of students like chocolate ice cream and there are 100 students, how many like chocolate ice cream?  If there are 200 students, how many like chocolate ice cream?

 

 Unit 6: Using Data: Addition & Subtraction of Fractions

Secure Goals:

  • Find and use data landmarks
Developing/Secure Goals:
  • Convert among fractions, decimals, and percents
Developing Goals:
  • Add and subtract fractions with common denominators
  • Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators
  • Understand how sample size affects results
  • Find a common denominator

 

 Unit 7: Exponents and Negative Numbers

 
Developing/Secure Goals:
  • Understand and apply exponential notation
  • Identify number sentences. Tell whether a number sentence is true or false
  • Understand and apply the use of parentheses to number sentences
  • Order and compare positive and negative numbers
 
Developing Goals:
  • Understand and apply powers of 10
  • Understand and apply order of operations to evaluate expressions and solve number sentences
  • Add and subtract positive and negative numbers

 Unit 8: Fractions and Ratios 

Secure Goals: (Children can apply the skill or concept correctly and independently)
  •      Convert among fractions, decimals, and percents
  •      Convert between fractions and mixed or whole numbers
  •       Find common denominators
Developing/Secure Goals: (Children are working beyond the developing level, not yet secure)     
  •      Use and algorithm to add mixed numbers
  •     Order and compare fractions
 
Developing Goals: (Children show some understanding. However, errors or misunderstandings
Still occur. Reminders, hints, and suggestions are incorporated with understanding)
 
  •       Use an algorithm to multiply fractions
  •       Use an algorithm to subtract fractions with like denominators
  •       Find the percent of a number
 

 

 

Unit 9: Coordinates, Area, Volume, and Capacity

Understand the concept of area of a figure
Use a formula to find the area of rectangles

Identify the base and height of triangles and parallelograms

Unit 12: Probability, Ratios and Rates

Find and identify factors of numbers.

Find the prime factorizations of numbers.
Make a factor tree to identify the prime factors of a number.

Solve ratio and rate stories.
