Ms. Heffron’s Thursday Letter
This year’s Cumberland Student Council sought to have an all school event that was student led, fun for students and teachers, and that would build a sense of community and school spirit. Tuesday’s Camp Out afternoon did all of this and more! The perfect temperatures and blue skies were an ideal backdrop for sack races, parachute games, relays, chalk drawings and the amazing S’Mores creation. (Kudos to Jeannie Grunau and the cast of volunteers who figured out how to get 100 students to roast marshmallows and build S’Mores in less than 15 minutes!) The closing event was all school singing of classics such as This Land is Your Land and I’ve Been Working on the Railroad, led by Ms. Steiner. All teachers and staff were involved in the day but particular thanks go to staff advisors Ms. Pollock, Ms. Jester, Ms. Gardner and Mr. Joynt who were bold enough to say yes when the idea was first floated and to the Student Council members who had great ideas.
To get just a glimpse of the fun we had, take a look at the slide show on our home page.
Tomorrow’s PTO Family Fun Night event will be another opportunity for students to enjoy being part of the Cumberland community and to support the PTO. I hope to see you there – especially if the weather allows us to be outside! Otherwise, the event still goes on but inside the school.
Today at 5:30, the Whitefish Bay Architectural Review Board will be considering the final plans for the additions to the schools. I am sure lively discussion will be had. You are welcome to attend the meeting. Next Wednesday, the School Board will present and review final plans. After that time, we will have a much better idea of how the impending work will impact our operations here in the summer and throughout next year.
Thanks for all you do for Cumberland.
Regards, Jayne Heffron
