A Thankful Letter from Ms. Heffron
November 20, 2008

If I could, I would make this a letter that would play a song when you start to read it. The song would be Louis Armstrong’s recording of the Bob Thiele song “What a Wonderful World.” Starting with:

I see trees of green, red roses too.
I see them bloom, for me and you.
And I think to myself... what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue, and clouds of white.
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world.

And, despite the challenges of the times we live in I would add:

I see children’s smiles, reaching to their eyes.
Adults caring for them, helping them become wise
And I think to myself….what a wonderful world

I see families sharing time, Thanksgiving too.
Traditions, parties, grateful for all we can do
And I think to myself…what a wonderful world.

I am thankful to work here in Whitefish Bay with you who care so deeply for your children and who show deep levels of support for the school and its staff. And, I am thankful to work with the staff here at Cumberland – people who care profoundly for your children and who always go the extra mile for them. As I travel to Michigan, with the inevitable white-out snow storm at the south end of Lake Michigan, to spend yet another Thanksgiving with my mother and siblings, I am thankful for the blessings in my life including family, work that I care passionately about, and opportunities to make memories with people I love. I hope this Thanksgiving gives you and your children time together to share family traditions and to create new ones. And, if you have a chance to listen, cue up Louis Armstrong!
                                                With gratitude,  Jayne Heffron
