Grading Policy

Projects (40%)

Computer projects will be assigned approximately once a week and constitute 40% of your grade.  For the more challenging projects, various difficulty levels are available so that all students can successfully complete the project.  The grade on the project will drop one grade (B to B-) for each day that it is late.  Since these courses are project based, all computer projects must be completed.  You will NOT receive credit for the class unless all projects are complete, regardless of your grade average.

Tests (40%)

Tests will be given approximately once every two weeks and will cover the material from the previous daily work, projects, class discussion, and the text book. Tests will constitute 40% of your grade.  Tests receive a letter grade based on established criteria for each test, and then that letter grade is converted into a number for recording purposes.  One day absences will not be a reason for delaying a test.  Students with extended absences have as many days as they were absent to take the test.  If the test is not taken before the deadline, students will receive a 0 on the test.  Students who fail a test will be required to take notes in class and submit their notebook for review before the next test.

Daily Work (20%)

Daily assignments will constitute the remaining 20% of your grade.  Written assignments (text book, worksheets, etc.) are graded in class and receive 0 to 4 points.  They will not be accepted late unless you have an excused absence, in which case you must turn them in to me marked “ABSENT ON DATE”.  Computerized assignments are printed, turned in to me, and receive 0 to 10 points.  Lessons lose 1 point for every day that they are late.

Grading Scale

I use a standard 90-100 A, 80-89 B, 70-79 C, 60-69 D, 0-59 F grading scale.

Extra Credit

Projects, reports, or other work may be undertaken with my prior permission.

Senior Exam Exemptions

Senior exam exemptions will be determined on an individual basis.  The following factors will be used in this determination:

  1.  School policy (attendance, truancies, discipline referrals including tardies)

  2.  Number of absences (for ANY reason including field trips and AP tests)

  3.  Number of failing grades, especially on tests.

  4.  Drop in grade from first to second quarter.

If a student is exempt form the exam, the quarter grades will be averaged to determine the semester grade.
