ANNOUNCEMENTS
AN IMPORTANT NOTE FROM THE CLINIC..
Attention 6th grade parents:
Updated immunizations are due by Oct. 13th!
There are still several 6th grade students who have not turned in their updated immunization records, or have not had needed immunizations in accordance with the new state laws which include the following:
1 Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) booster shot
2nd Varicella (chicken pox) booster shot (if they have not had the disease).
If your child receives a letter this week stating that he/she needs those immunizations, we need the date of the doctor's appointment, or the updated information sent to the middle school clinic with your child. If you would like to call the clinic with questions or information the number is 963-6818.
Parents, please remember to call the MS clinic at 963-6818 if your child is absent.

STAR PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Win a Star Party!!!! The Star group collecting the most Box Tops for Education, Campbell's Labels for Education, Kemps Milk Tops and Golden Guernsey Milk Tops during the week of October 20 will win a STAR PARTY!!!! Simply Collect the above items and turn them in to your student's Star teacher during the week. The items will be counted and the Star Class with the most items will win a party and make lots of money for the Middle School. Last year, students collected enough items to earn over $1000 for the PTO to distribute. We can beat that this year!!!!!!!!!

NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL
FUND RAISING GOALS 2008-2009
For several years we have been doing an all school fund raiser involving students selling magazine subscriptions. I do not feel comfortable having students go door to door selling anything nor do I want to add more pressure to our parents in feeling an obligation to buy something for school. The economic times are hard for all of us yet we will continue to ask for financial support from any who can help.
This year our areas of focus for fund raising are student council leadership camp, technology and fitness. Currently the student council is working on our first school social for the WFBMS seventh and eighth grade students. That dance will be Friday, October 24th from 7pm-9pm. I do anticipate another social either late winter or early spring sponsored by our student council and PTO.
We are in the infancy stages of creating a parent technology committee to help brainstorm and implement fund raising activities. We met several times last year and have a few ideas to carry forward for this coming year. The goal of this committee will be to generate awareness of our current technology need as well as to create activities that will allow for expansion of our wireless lab, additional workstations for students and more SMART boards.
The third and final area of focus in our fund raising goal is our fitness equipment. We are looking to add more cardio machines this year. Our fund raising strategy for this is to simply ask for donations. A commercial grade treadmill runs about $3,000 and we would like to add 2 machines this year. If you are interested in making a donation to this area, you can make the checks out to WFBMS Gift Fund.
We will keep families updated on the progress of these goals using the Thursday folder. I want to thank you in advance for any support you can offer.
