NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Parent Teacher Conferences are upon us once again. Spring Conferences are a great opportunity to do a final check-in before the run up to the end of the year. The Middle School Conference Schedule is:
-
March 22nd: Full Day for Students, Open Conferences from 4-8 pm
-
March 23rd: Half Day for Students (release at 11:30), Email/Phone/Teacher-Initiated Conferences 12:00-2:00 PM, Open Conferences from 2:30 - 8 PM
-
March 24th: No School for Students, Work Day for Staff 7:30 - 11:30 AM
Open conferences are first-come, first-serve in each teacher’s classroom. Email or phone conferences can be requested by parents so that staff can call you during that window of time. Teacher-initiated conferences result from a teacher request to a parent and usually involve more than one staff member (school counselor, special education teacher, etc.). Please know that due to the volume of students our teachers are responsible for, they will not be able to schedule individual conferences outside of these allotted dates and times.
Also during this time, plan on stopping by the Scholastic Book Fair, sponsored by our PTO. This is a great opportunity to grab your children a Spring Break read, or to donate a favorite title to their teacher’s classroom library. We hope to see you there!

REDgen Event
Join us as we gain insights from Dr. Kenneth Ginsburg, M.D., M.S. Ed, a pediatrician specializing in Adolescent Medicine at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.
The theme, tying together his clinical practice, teaching, research and advocacy efforts is that of building on the strength of teenagers by fostering their internal resilience. Click here for more information.
**Please note: This program is about the effects of traumatic experiences on youth and best practices for working with youth who have experienced trauma to promote healing and their success. It is a different program than the ones Dr. Ginsburg did for REDgen in 2014 and 2015. This program is suitable for parents and for professionals who work with youth. We just want to be sure that parents know that this is a heavy topic and different from his previous presentations.
Advocates For Education Host School Board Candidate Forum
Three candidates are running for two school board seats in April's election. Doug Armstrong will be seeking re-election and W. Brett Christiansen and Friederike Lemaitre are newcomers to the race. Be an informed voter on April 4 by coming to AFE's March forum. Candidates will express their views on issues of importance to the district and will answer questions from the attendees. The event will be held March 6, at 6:30pm in the second floor meeting room of the Whitefish Bay Library.
School Board Meeting - March 8th
The community is welcome to attend School Board meetings to gain a better understanding of School District business and the role of the School Board. The public is also invited to address the Board during the public comment portion of each Board meeting. The next school board meeting is March 8th, 2017.
All meetings will be held in Room 47 at Whitefish Bay High School, 1200 East Fairmount Avenue, beginning at 7:00 p.m. unless posted to be held at another building within the district. Generally, postings will be two days in advance of the meeting. Meeting agendas are posted within BoardDocs two days preceding each meeting.
