School District Code of Classroom Conduct
Students in the School District of Whitefish Bay are expected to:

- demonstrate effort by listening carefully and following instructions
- make positive contributions to the school learning environment

COMMON SENSE RULE - This rule covers all those situations that arise during the school year that call for students to behave in a manner that reflects their age and upbringing. For the safety and benefit of all, we expect our students to behave safely and courteously in all situations, even those not clearly defined by a specific behavior expectation or rule. "I didn't know" will not be accepted as an excuse for obviously inappropriate behavior, as we believe that your home operates under similar expectations.
THE RICHARDS WAY IN THE CLASSROOM - At the beginning of the school year, each class and their teacher will develop a list of class rules. These rules may vary from class to class but will reflect the school's philosophy of sharing, showing respect and being responsible through age-appropriate expectations. Likewise, the classroom teacher will determine appropriate consequences for behavioral infractions. THE RICHARDS WAY IN THE HALLWAY - Students are expected to:

CONSEQUENCES
Behavior Reports or Write-Ups are used for lunchroom, hallway, playground, restroom infractions or frequent, chronic misbehavior in the classroom. A letter willnotify parents each time a student receives a write-up. The student is expected to give his/her parent the copy of the write-up slip and get the cover letter signed. Signing the letter verifies that the parent received a copy of the report. It does not indicate that the parent agrees or disagrees with the behavior report. Students, who do not return the write-up signed by a parent, get frequent write-ups and/or repeat the misbehavior will be in danger of serving lunch detentions.
If a child misbehaves, whether or not he/she receives a write-up slip, he/she may be sent to the principal's office. Parents may be contacted to help us work through more serious and/or recurring behavioral problems. When this is necessary, a call will be made immediately to the parent or a note, which requires a parental signature, will be sent home with the child.
If a student disrupts class, disturbs classmates or does not follow classroom rules, he/she may be removed from the classroom. The parents will be notified of the removal from class and the consequences as indicated in the School District's Code of Classroom Conduct.
Bullying will not be tolerated at our school. We encourage our students to report incidents of bullying to a teacher or administrator.
Exceptional cases of misbehavior may immediately result in the following: in-school suspension, conference with parents or out-of-school suspension. Biting is considered very dangerous due to health risks and may result in a suspension. Bringing a knife or other weapon to school is deemed as grounds for immediate suspension and potential expulsion. Look-alike weapons are not allowed for Halloween or school reports. SeeSchool District Policy for specific definitions and consequences regarding weapons on school property.
Disciplinary action for vandalism will be taken, and costs will be assessed to students who willfully break, damage or deface school property.
