Emergency School Closings
Occasionally, it is necessary to close schools due to a snowstorm or other emergency. The policy of the Whitefish Bay School District is to close schools when the weather conditions present a serious threat to the health and safety of children and staff. When possible, the decision to close school will be made by 6:00 a.m. and to dismiss early by 11:00 a.m. When school is closed or dismissed early due to weather, all school district-sponsored activities are also canceled. When the Whitefish Bay Schools are to be closed, a repeated announcement will be made over the local radio stations: WISN (1130 AM), WOKY (920 AM), WMIL (106 FM), and WTMJ (620 AM) and television channels 4, 6 and 12 and 58.

If weather or another emergency forces the evacuation of students during the school day, all families will be contacted via the ALERTNOW System. All phone numbers listed on your child's school emergency form will be contacted within a few moments. Please create a plan for your family and be sure that all individuals listed as emergency contacts are aware of this process.

If the weather conditions present a serious threat to the health and safety of children at dismissal time (i.e., tornado warnings), students will be kept inside school until either the threat of danger has passed or a parent or other responsible adult has arrived at school to safely escort the child home.
