Messages from Dr. Kasmarick
As many of you will recall from last year, spring conferences are held on an as-needed basis. They can be scheduled by either family or teacher request.
Teachers may recommend a conference if they see a change in achievement based on student progress indicators, behavior, or work habits. Teachers who are recommending a conference for your child will forward you a link by Thursday, February 21 to schedule a conference with your child. The conference schedule is as follows:
- 4K students only: Wednesday, March 6 from 12:00 pm - 8:00 pm
- 5K through 5th grade students: Thursday, March 7 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Families may also wish to schedule a conference to discuss any new concerns or to receive updates on student progress toward previously established concerns or goals. If you have not received a recommendation from your child's teacher by February 21 and feel that you need to schedule a conference, please contact your child’s classroom teacher and they will send you the link to sign up.
Spring conferences will be scheduled online and time slots will be 15 minutes each. When scheduling conferences, families will only see which time slots are open and which are filled. To maintain confidentiality and privacy, the names of families or students will not be visible on the filled time slots. Parents who are separated/divorced are asked to schedule a single conference time which both parents can attend.
We hope that report cards, posted last Thursday, helped you to verify your student's continued academic progress towards district standards. Please also note that families will have the opportunity to share thoughts on placement for next school year using an input form sent via Thursday Folder in April.
Snow Days Update
The District canceled school four times this school year due to extreme weather. The Department of Public Instruction recently eliminated the minimum school day requirement for a school year. Now public school districts are only required to meet a minimum number of minutes of instruction per school year. The minute requirement varies by grade level.
As a result of the additional canceled school day this week, the High School will be making slight modifications to existing attendance days to reclaim the required minutes. Further information will be provided to the High School staff, parents/guardians, and students from Principal Levek. No other schools will be impacted at this time.
Please note, if there is an additional cancellation day(s), we will communicate how the District will best meet the required minutes of instruction for all schools.
