Messages from Dr. Kasmarick
Each year, I am so impressed by how well our students transition from summer break to a new school year. Thanks to your support, they come to school prepared with needed supplies, confidence, and smiles. They are learning about and showing the Richards Way throughout the building. Way to go, Tigers!
In addition to our group of 86 4-year old kindergarten students, we welcome 22 new students in grades 5K-5th this fall-- some from other schools in the community and parts of Wisconsin, some from other states, and some from other countries. Our students love learning about each other’s varied backgrounds, and we are truly strengthened by a diverse student body. We are different in many ways, but at Richards we are all TIGERS!
Thank you for your partnership in creating a safe environment for our students and staff through your patience with Raptor, our new visitor management system. We’ve worked through some technical difficulties on the first day and are now fully up and running. Remember, when entering the building beyond the office during the school day, you must bring a government-issued ID. If you need to drop off lunches, supplies, or instruments, we encourage you to leave them in the office and we’ll happily deliver them to your child.
As you prep for each new week, remember that Mondays are school spirit days at Richards. Students and staff are invited to show their spirit by wearing spiritwear or our school colors - orange and black. With much excitement, we unveiled our new school logo at yesterday’s school meeting. Thank you, PTO for leading this charge!
Student Drop Off & Pick Up
For student safety and the overall efficient flow of traffic, please be mindful of all posted parking signs around our building. Do not stop in the street to pick up or drop off- this becomes an issue most often on Day Avenue, and we will ask the Police Department to carefully monitor this area if need be. Take advantage of the crossing guards and park a block or two away to avoid the traffic congestion. Thank you for your attention to this!
School Safety Drills
The regular participation of school communities in safety drills and exercises is imperative to maximize both prevention of and effective response to safety issues. The Whitefish Bay School District has established cooperative relationships with various governmental agencies, including the health, police, and fire departments. Supported by this cooperation, we conduct four types of safety drills each year:
-
Fire drills are conducted on a monthly basis.
-
Tornado/Severe Weather Drills are conducted once each semester.
-
Two lockdown drills are conducted each fall. More specific information, to include the talking points used with students, will be shared with families prior to our first drill of this kind.
-
One evacuation drill is conducted each year. Last year, this was conducted during lunch so that all students had the opportunity to practice a calm, controlled, and quick exit from the busy Great Hall.
If you have questions about our safety drills or daily safety procedures, please reach out!
Welcome back everyone. It's going to be a great year!
