In Board Policy 537: Professional Learning Opportunities, the School Board of Whitefish Bay Schools delegates to the District Administrator the task of annually establishing and overseeing the implementation of a comprehensive professional development plan in order to provide learning and development opportunities for District’s staff. The comprehensive plan is established and updated collaboratively with the assistance of licensed support staff, instructional staff, and administrative staff.
The professional development programming that is provided in the District is managed and delivered at various levels, including District-wide programming, building-based programming, and programming that is specific to particular functions, skills, or subjects. The plan also includes components that allow means for the identification and pursuit of individualized activities that focus on an employee's professional needs, goals and interests. Such individualized components may be coordinated, for example, through formative personnel evaluations and assessments, through individual goal-setting activities, or through processes related to licensure. The District Administrator in cooperation with other District leaders presents the annual professional learning plan for Board review prior to approval.
The improvement of professional learning is aligned with the District's Focus Plan, the Seven Thriving Dispositions, current research, best practices, Learning Forward standards, and local educational objectives and/or school goals.
