Messages from Dr. Kasmarick
It's hard to believe, but planning for the 17-18 school year is upon us! The creation of class placements is a complex process that involves several staff members and multiple revisions. As in previous years, we will provide a parent input form if there are things you'd like to share with us. We will share those via the Thursday folder in mid-April and ask that they be returned by May 12. If, for any reason, your student(s) will not be returning to Richards for next year, please let us know.
On a different note, we welcomed Dr. Mazius for an informational session this morning on helping students to summon self control. Aligned with this topic, this article from KQED about emotional agility is written with teens as a focus, but can be equally helpful for thinking about supporting younger children. According the psychologist featured, the challenge is to develop a greater awareness of our emotions...to live in the moment with a clear reading of present circumstances, respond appropriately, and act in alignment with our deepest values. What a wonderful reminder for us as adults and disposition to work towards with our kids!
Mark your calendars for Dr. Mazuis' final presentation:
May 5 (8:15-9:15 am): Building Optimistic Thinking in our Children
Dogs on the Playground
Please remember that, because we have students with fears and allergies, we ask that dogs stay off of the playground and school grounds. Thank you!
Parent Teacher Conferences
With parent/teacher conferences right around the corner, please remember that teachers highly value the time set aside to meet with parents and guardians. If you are not able to make it in person, phone conferences can be held during your scheduled time. Teachers are not able to schedule conferences outside of these designated days in order to keep intact their regular preparation and collaboration responsibilities. If you are unable to attend conferences during the scheduled times and the teacher has a concern, s/he will communicate with you via phone or email. Thank you ahead of time for cooperating with this structure!
Conferences will be held March 22 & 23, please call the office (963-3951) to schedule your conference(s).
