Thursday letter from Ms. Heffron and Ms. Salomon: June 1, 2023

What can be said about yesterday’s Spring Sing: School’s Out for the Summer? Everything about it was spectacular including the planning, creation of the program itself, art work, singing (including the increasing complexity throughout the years, movement activities, student leaders in speaking and movement, and the all school dance. The breeze was just right and looking at the students on the risers or playground, framed against a clear blue sky, brought tears to many eyes. Thank you for being the audience and for bringing extended family members! It is a tribute to our entire school community that so many of you make time in your schedules to attend, including taking time off work. One grandmother of ten said: Cumberland is just the best! None of my other grandchildrens’ schools do anything like this. We totally agree!!
Thanks, PTO, for the welcome cold treats after school. The ices were perfect after such a warm and sunny afternoon!

Pre-ordered Yearbooks will be sent home with children today. If you ordered one and didn’t receive one or the yearbook has printing errors, please email: rife002@hotmail.com. For those who would still like to have a yearbook, we are currently waiting on our extras to arrive. We will announce a sale date once they are in our hands. For 5th grade only, if you would like to put your name on a waiting list, you can do so at the office on a first come, first served basis.
The end of the year brings many special events. Friday, tomorrow, is National Donut Day. Saturday is the re-scheduled PTO movie night. Details for both of these are below.
Circle of Love: We would like to honor our 5th graders on their last Cumberland day by surrounding them with love. If your schedule allows, please join us on the playground Friday morning, June 9th. Teachers will meet classes outside at 7:47, and we will move into a giant circle on the outer edge of the blacktop. Fifth graders will walk an inner circle with those of us on the outside clapping (and cheering and whistling and generally making noise!) before they enter Cumberland for the last time as 5th graders. Adults of all age children are welcome to join in.
