Curriculum Updates: Social and Emotional Learning and Mathematics

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year!   School hours, lunch, and lunch recess times are listed below.  Please note that each grade level lunch and lunch recess session includes time for student hand washing.  

Soft Start, Beginning 9/20: Students in grades 5K-4 begin their day with a daily morning circle, an important component of Caring School Community. Beginning the week of 9/20, students in these grades may enter through their grade level doors beginning at 7:52am (three minutes before the 7:55am entry bell). These doors will be staffed. The purpose is to provide students with a bit of extra time to get inside and settled so that the class morning circle can begin on time.

Student Milk and Ice Cream: Milk is sold daily during lunch and can be purchased for .10 cents. Ice cream bars are sold on the second Tuesday of the month for students in grades 1-5 for .50 cents.  Milk and ice cream cards are available for purchase during lunch sessions in the Great Hall or from the office.  Milk cards ($2.00) include 20 punches and ice cream cards ($4.50) include 9 punches.  Partially used punch cards from last year can be used, so check those lunch boxes!

Richards Clinic is open for medication drop off during Roaring Start. Feel free to bring your child's medication along with the corresponding forms this week or when school starts next week. Just a reminder, if you feel your child may need Tylenol or Ibuprofen for any reason during the year, that would also need to be brought from home.

Celebrating Birthdays/Star Student: As noted on pages 16-17 of our school handbook, we no longer allow shared food treats for birthday or star student celebrations. This is intended to increase levels of both safety and inclusivity for all of our students. Donating a book to the classroom library, inviting a family member in to read to the class, or other small items to share (i.e. pencils, stickers, straws, bookmarks, etc.) are options for celebration. Shared snacks/treats may be provided by teachers or teacher-appointed volunteers for all-class celebrations, but these will be selected carefully based on allergies in each individual classroom.

Parent/Guardian Orientation will take place this evening,  September 2nd (schedule below).  Orientation is being held virtually this year to allow greater ease of attendance for families.  Parents/guardians received a zoom link from your classroom teacher(s).

If you already have a MTK account, please make sure to update your teacher assignment so you receive all communications from your Room Parent!

Bring on those smiles!! School Picture Day will be held during the school day on September 17th. To receive an email when your child(ren)’s images are ready to view online: go to vipis.com, enter your school name, select “School Portraits”, and fill in the search fields. A student ID number will be required (which can be found under the Student Info Tab on Family Access). Or, you can search for your gallery after photo day. You’ll be able to select your image for yearbook/composite, and purchase portraits. All orders will be delivered to your home. If you need further assistance, contact us at support@vipis.com.  Picture Retake Day will take place on November 4. More details to follow.

District Announcements

The Whitefish Bay School District has partnered with Accelerated Clinical Laboratories to provide free, optional, diagnostic COVID-19 testing for students, their families, and staff. More information, including testing location and hours, can be found in this link. Please note that we do not accept at-home test results for return to school purposes.

From the Recreation Department

Whitefish Bay Recreation Department and Futura Languages are happy to announce that after school Spanish classes are back!  Young Rembrandts drawing classes are also being offered for students in 5K -5th grade. Classes are open and available for registration. Please see the attached flyers for more information.
