From the PTO
Congratulations 5th Graders…Middle School Bound!
We are sad and disappointed that we were not able to celebrate our 5th graders this year with traditional in-person events but we celebrated them publicly with yard signs and virtually on our PTO Facebook page.
Have you noticed the “Middle School Bound” signs pop up in yards around our village? The Richards and Cumberland PTO's came together to honor all WFB 5th graders with the same yard signs as a symbol of unity as they move onto the middle school together!
The 5th graders are continuing a longstanding tradition - The Baby Photo Matching Contest. The students get the chance to see how well they can recognize their classmates as babies. The student from each class who can match the most baby photos to classmates will be the winners. Results will be announced at the class meeting on Thursday. The winners will receive a Winkie’s gift card, courtesy of the PTO. This tradition is such a fun way to celebrate these amazing kids through the ages.
Our 5th grade students recently voted on the Citizenship Award. This award is a recognition by peers on who is an exceptional role model for their classroom community. These students are recognized by their peers as classmates who gave quality membership to their classroom community - how they presented themselves as they worked, played and studied at school that set them apart from others.
Here are the winners from each class. Congratulations!
DeToro: Anya P. and Owen W.
Matthews: Aura G. and Whit J.
McClung: Noora M. and Brady E. and Zach F. (tie)
Mike: Lila B. and Miles J.
The 5th graders will also be receiving a t-shirt and a memory book when they pick up their belongings at school and a surprise during their final live meeting on Thursday.
We would like to thank our PTO 5th Grade Advancement Committee Chairs Jen Willems and Lucy Judy and committee members Wendy Gulzad, Andrea Grant, Abby Jakowski and Erica Yewlett and Kate Suriano from the Cumberland 5th Grade Advancement team - for working so hard during these unusual times to make these last few weeks special for our 5th graders.
We wish our 5th graders success and happiness as they move onto this next chapter!
Yearbooks are here! Update: There has been a change in plan for how the yearbooks will be delivered to students. Instead of delivering them to homes, they will be included with your child’s belongings that you will be picking up this week at school during your designated time slot.
A huge thank you to Kristin Sherman, our PTO Yearbook Chair, for all her hard work getting the yearbook put together during these unusual times. Thank you to everyone who helped Kristin and to those parents who sent in photos to help fill the yearbook with virtual learning memories!
Thank You Richards Teachers and Staff!
Dear Richards Teachers and Staff,
We made it! It’s safe to say none of us expected to be ending the school year amidst a global pandemic, but here we are! The last few months have been challenging and we want to thank you all for rising to the occasion. In a few short weeks you were able to completely revamp your curriculum, learn how to use new teaching software, and dive headfirst into the new reality of education, “Can everybody mute their mics please?” Thank you for your smiling faces, your humor, your patience, and your willingness to answer what was likely a never-ending stream of emails, phone calls, and text messages from students and their parents. Have a wonderful summer,
The Richards PTO
