At Tuesday's school meeting, we saw a sneak peek of the WFBMS production of High School Musical Junior and kicked off our May focus on PERSEVERANCE.
Perseverance = the ability and self-control that pushes you to work through challenges. Don't give up, no matter what!
Mr. Sohr talked with students about his recent experience at the Boston Marathon, and how much perseverance it took to qualify! We also enjoyed these examples of problems and solutions from Mrs. Mooney's class and this video about failure as a necessary part of the process!
What examples of perseverance can you find and celebrate in your own family?
Bus Parking on Santa Monica
The posted signs in front or our school reserve the parking spots for buses until 3:30, but some days our buses arrive just a few minutes beyond that. If possible, please give them the right of way. Thank you for your attention to this!
Being Green
Here at Richards, our students practice being respectful, not only to the people around us, but to our greater environment as well. Through science, they explore our ecosystem in greater depth through insects, plants, air, water, climate, land forms, and much more! We periodically review and reinforce diligent recycling practices throughout the building and our staff members participate in an energy program in order to conserve energy and minimize costs. Please see the attached flyer regarding some green efforts in Whitefish Bay this summer!

Dr. Mazius Informational Session
Friday, May 5 from 8:15-9:15am in the Richards Great Hall
Fostering Optimism in Children: The How Tos When Parenting
Our children, when young, (and during adolescence) develop a theory for explaining their successes, disappointments and failures. This thinking can crystallize early on in one’s life. Clearly, optimism puts kids on the best path as their lives unfold. We parents, play a key role in this process. Child Psychologist, Dr. Michael Mazius, will describe the ways in which we exert influence over our kids’ thinking style and the impact this has on their academic outcomes, problem solving in general and overall mental health. Please come to listen and share in this important discussion on child rearing.
