Dear Parents,
On October 30th- November 1st the students will take the Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Examination (WKCE). A good night’s rest, a healthy breakfast, and a positive attitude will result in a great week of testing. We will be testing each day for about one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon. Much of the time involves giving directions and doing a few practice problems together. To help prepare for the tests, we have been doing a variety of practice tests and sample questions. Students also know some great test-taking tips, like “Relax”, “Do your best and then move on”, and “Focus on your own work; don’t worry about anyone else”.
Math: We have continued to work on strategies and number stories for addition and subtraction. This work, especially with subtraction, will be practiced extensively over the next few months.
Language Arts: We have continued to work hard on our narrative paragraphs. We spent several days working on using complete sentence, adding details and editing our stories. We even helped each other with spelling and looking up words in the dictionary.
Science: Our field trip to the Audubon Nature Center was awesome! Thank you chaperones! We learned about three types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic.
Something you can do with your child:
Write a letter to a friend or relative. Have your child do the same. Have your child write the address of the person you are sending the letter to. Stress correct spelling and alignment of the words and numbers.
