Dear Parents,
Thank you for coming to parent orientation. Meeting you helped me to feel like we are in this together traveling down the road of third grade. If you were unable to attend, you will find an orientation outline on my website that summarizes our discussion. I hope you got a feel for what it is like in third grade. If you have questions, please feel free to send an email or write a note in your child’s assignment notebook.
As I mentioned at orientation, it is important to have a thirty minute homework time established. On the evenings when your child finishes assignments early, he or she should still use that time for school related activities such as reading together, reading independently, playing educational computer games that you approve, writing a letter, etc. I would encourage ten minutes of basic facts as regularly as possible.
Calling All Mystery Readers!
I would like to invite any parents, older siblings, grandparents, relatives or other special people to surprise your child by being a “Mystery Reader” this year in our classroom. Students LOVE having their family, friends and relatives visit our classroom to share in our learning by reading a favorite story aloud to our class. Mystery Readers will visit us on Fridays at 2:40pm each week. Readers are asked to bring a book to read or read a “teacher chosen” book from our classroom library. I will send you a reminder a week prior to your reading date and ask you for some “clues” about yourself that I can share with the class to build up the “mysterious” nature of our reader!
Please sign up to be a mystery reader by sending me an email of your 1st and 2nd. I will create a schedule and send it out in about two week. Submit your preferred dates by Monday, October 1. There are many dates to choose from throughout the year. We will begin in mid-October and go through the end of May. If you are unable to find a date that works for you, please email and I will try to create a date that works with our class schedule!
Remember – you are a mystery to the class, so try not to tell your child when you will be coming! We can’t wait to meet our 2012-2013 Mystery Readers!
