Dear Parents, September 27, 2012
This week we have been very busy. Here are some things we did.
In math we have been reviewing number grids, telling time and going over basic addition and subtraction facts.
In reading, we have continued to practice the “Daily 3”. The students are doing a good job reading to themselves, reading with a partner or working on writing. During our reading time, I have enjoyed conferencing one on one. Next week in reading, we will spend a lot of time on the strategy drawing of conclusions with the story “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” by James Marshall. The students will learn that when you draw conclusions, you make a decision about a character or part of the story based on what you have read.
Mrs. Sindic has been busy teaching the students about continents. Map skills are very important to this first unit. You may want to spend some time reviewing the directions, capital cities and the difference between a state and a country. The first Social Studies quiz is Tuesday, October 2nd.
