District Announcements
Whitefish Bay Elementary Families,
Our administrative leadership team has continued to conduct staff meetings at each of our schools to check in on our staff members, discuss plans for the summer, document curriculum decisions and changes, and collect feedback on what is going well and how we can get better. One theme has been consistent at each meeting and level; all of our staff members have deep appreciation for the resiliency of our students and the educational, social, and emotional support that is being provided by our families to their children. These are extraordinary times and your work has been critical to the success of our students! Below are a few updates from our Teaching and Learning Department.
Elementary Report Card Update
We have expanded our options for grading indicators to support all students so that we are not unintentionally penalizing them for circumstances that are beyond their control and have impacted their learning. Therefore, we will be introducing a new progress indicator into our elementary standards based report cards. We also ensured that the comment area was designed to allow for more teacher narrative feedback.

There is enough stress and anxiety currently surrounding our students; we do not want report cards to be another source of those feelings. We believe that this plan will enable a fair reporting of academic progress, without penalizing students for things outside of their control. Learner profile indicators will be scored based on the portion of the semester that students were physically in classrooms.
Third Grade CogAT Update
When Governor Evers closed schools for the remainder of the school year on March 13, 2020, the School District of Whitefish Bay was in the midst of the CogAT assessment window. Not all of our third grade students throughout the District were able to take that assessment. We have been working with the vendor to allow us to extend our subscriptions through fall 2020. Once a timeline for a return to the classroom has been established, we will schedule the CogAT for the fourth graders students who were unable to take the assessment in March. After all students are able to take the assessment, we will have access to all individual students' results and will send them home at that time.
Human Growth and Development Update
The School District of Whitefish Bay recognizes the primary role that the family plays in developing values, attitudes, and behavior. We have also implemented an elementary and secondary human growth and development program. The program is organized into five strands: self-esteem, relationships, decision making, life cycles, and abuse prevention. As we have moved to a virtual learning model, the decision has been made to not deliver the life cycles and abuse prevention virtually in grades K-5 in an effort to ensure that all students have a supportive adult present when sensitive information is provided. Once a timeline for a return to the classroom has been established, we will determine the impact and make a plan to teach the materials that were not delivered for life cycles and abuse prevention. If you have any questions or comments, please contact your building principal.
Dear Families,
As the country and the world respond to the coronavirus (COVID-19), we are all feeling a range of emotions. It is important now more than ever to attend to the social and emotional needs of ourselves and others during this time.
The School District of Whitefish Bay School Psychologists assembled social/emtional/mental health resources related to COVID-19 that may offer support to your family. Please find the resources below. Our district COVID-19 webpage has additional resources to help support you during this time. If you find you need more assistance addressing the social/emotional/mental health needs of your child (children), please contact your school psychologist.
Many resources for parents on coping with anxiety, discipline/behavioral strategies, daily tips such as how to parent teens in isolation, tips for parents of children with Autism, etc.
WFB HS Senior Grad Grams: Our seniors have really had a lot taken away from them this year but we can try and make up for that by selling and making more Grad Grams than ever before. If you know a Senior or even several, please consider giving them a Grad Gram. You can order them using our attached form or you can pick them up at one of the two pick up/drop off sites. Either way, our graduates love reading their Grad Grams. Many keep their booklets as keepsakes.
Thank you for your help in getting the word out and for helping us reach as many people as possible. Our Seniors deserve a memorable send off! Order your grad grams by May 31!
